Maca Nut Balls – Basic Recipe:
This is a super simple version that I start with and then depending on what I have around, I usually throw in a couple of wild cards (see below). If you like sweet stuff, you may want to add some honey or maple syrup. Start with just a little and sample until you reach that “just “right” ness. 🙂
1 cup dried dates (pitted)
1 cups walnuts or other nuts as desired
1 TBS coconut oil
1 TBS Maca powder
1/4 tsp sea salt
Optional additions or substitutions: gogi berries, chia seeds, honey or maple syrup, lemon zest,
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until well combined. Roll into balls (as you can see from the photo above, perfect roundness is not required). If nut balls are flaky or fall apart, add more coconut oil, dates or honey and blend again.
What’s so great about Maca? Maca is a root vegetable that grows in Peru. It is also an adaptogen, which means it helps the body deal with stress. It is also a superfood touted for its positive effects on fertility and libido. I like the malty flavor in recipes like this, as well as smoothies.
