This Ginger’s Kick Ass Citrus Tonic

Lemons, Limes, Ginger, hot water (and a recycled jar to store your tonic).

I guess this is why they say redheads are firey? At least it’s true for me when it comes to making a tonic. Now let’s get clear here, I’m not talking about an alcoholic tonic (sorry if you were hoping for one). Nope, this is a wholesome, no hangover, “I need a little fire in my soul” tonic.

This is a great warm up in winter but I especially like it in early spring when the body is wanting to clear out and wake up from winter’s slumber.  Essentially it is a nice mug of hot water infused with the juice of lemon, lime and ginger, plus a few crucial extras for the “Kick”.

Ginger Citrus Tonic

You will need a juicer for this recipe

2 lemons

2 limes

Large chunk of fresh ginger (half an index finger’s worth)

Dash of cayenne

Dash of turmeric

Juice the lemons, limes and ginger to make your super potent tonic concentrate. This recipe makes about 4 ounces depending on the size of your lemons/limes. Store in a mason jar in the fridge for 4-5 days.

Add 1-2 TBS of tonic starter to a cup of hot water (as if you were making tea)

Add the dash of cayenne and turmeric

I suggest starting with 1 TBS of tonic in your hot water first, especially if you aren’t a red head. 🙂

PS – the photo above shows the tonic concentrate in a recycled honey jar.  You can add honey if you wish, but I didn’t.
